Bringing the Bible to Life: The Good Shepherd

Bringing the Bible to Life: The Good Shepherd

Our goal here at Friends of the Faith is to help you live, learn, and share your faith. So each week we will be highlighting a portion of scripture with practical tips to help bring the Bible to life for your family!

The Parable of the Lost Sheep

The story of the good shepherd has a special place in our hearts, so we wanted to start the newsletter by reflecting on the Parable of the Lost Sheep from Matthew 18:10-14, a beautiful illustration of Jesus' role as the Good Shepherd who seeks and saves the lost.

Scripture Passage:

“ If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off. In the same way, your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish.” Matthew 18:10-14

Reflect:

Reflect on the words of the passage and what they mean to you. This parable emphasizes the importance of each person in God's eyes. God loves us each, specifically and individually. So much that if we wander off He will seek us out. And so much that Jesus gave His life for us! We hope this reflection brings you comfort and peace today.

Bring the Bible to Life!

Here are some ideas for bringing this parable to life for your whole family!

  • Storytime Discussion: Read the Parable of the Lost Sheep together as a family. Discuss how it shows Jesus' love for every individual, especially those who are lost or have strayed. And cuddle up with a Jesus plush while you read!
  • Sheep Hunt: Hide a small toy sheep (like one of our adorable sheep) or any object around the house and have a "sheep hunt" with your children. Relate this to how Jesus seeks out each one of us when we are lost.
  • Craft: Create a sheep craft using cotton balls and paper. As you make the craft, talk about how each sheep is important to the shepherd, just as each person is important to Jesus.

Additional Resources:

  • Product Spotlight: In case you missed it, we have a new "Love Like Jesus" plush and Good Shepherd collection that are comforting reminders of Jesus' love and care. Use them during story time to help children visualize Jesus as the Good Shepherd, and find the perfect shirts to help your whole family live out this parable as well!
